Dentures

A denture is a removable appliance that we can create to replace your missing teeth. When any teeth are missing, dentures are essential to keeping your mouth and any remaining teeth in the proper form.

We offer two types of dentures at our Wyckoff, NJ dental practice: complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are an option for those who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures are used in cases when some natural teeth remain. Partial dentures help to prevent the natural teeth from shifting in the mouth.

Procedure

The procedure to receive your complete or partial denture will require multiple visits to our practice over the course of several weeks. During these visits, our dentist will take impressions of your mouth to ensure the custom fit of your dentures. Preliminary fitting appointments may also be scheduled in order to provide optimum outcome in the color and shape of the denture. At the final appointment, the dentures will be ready for final adjustment. At this point, the dentist will place your dentures for optimal comfort and function.

Post-Op Instructions

Once you’ve received your dentures or partials, it is important to leave them in the mouth for 24 hours. To ensure your comfort, take a pain pill such as ibuprofen after you arrive home and before the numbness wears off. Apply cool cloths or ice packs to the area outside of the mouth for 20 minutes at a time to help keep you comfortable as well. The first day after you’ve received your dentures, eat soft, cool foods. Stay away from solid foods until you feel your body is ready. If you have any questions about your recovery, please call our office immediately.
